There are three primary types of bulk bag constructions: U-Panel, 4-Panel, and Circular/Tubular. Each offers distinct structural characteristics suited for different applications. Baffled, Formstable, and Q Bag are all terms used interchangeably to describe the same type of square FIBC designed for enhanced stability.
Baffles are internal components that can be added to any of the above constructions to create a “baffled” bag. Specifically, they are fabric panels or strings sewn into each of the bag’s four corners, allowing the bag to maintain a square shape when filled.
Without baffles, standard bulk bags tend to bulge or belly at the sides when filled. In contrast, baffled jumbo bags offer superior stability and stackability, reducing the risk of tipping during transport. They also maximize storage capacity by maintaining a uniform shape, making them ideal for efficient warehousing. The 4‑Panel baffled bag is the most common configuration.
Baffled FIBCs are suitable for virtually any dry, flowable product where stability and stacking performance are critical. Typical uses include:
Industrial materials: sand, minerals, chemicals
Food ingredients and agricultural products: seed, rice
Specialty minerals: carbon black, calcium stearate, soda ash, talc, resin pellets, bentonite, barite, lignite, humates, and other mineral‑based materials.
Selecting a baffled construction is often driven by the need for enhanced stacking stability and improved load presentation during transportation and storage. Whether you’re shipping dense minerals or lightweight granules, a baffled bag ensures your product stays securely stacked and easily accessible.
